01. The Blue Ribbon, Part 1.
Dec. 9th, 2012 07:56 pmMy story began in New York City. I had just flown into town that morning and settled into the usual hotel I stay at while there, when I received a call from my first cousin, Vera Rollins.
It had been quite some time since I heard from her - about a year and a half. That was when Mr. Reginald Rollins had suddenly passed away from a heart attack at the tender age of 45. That's genetics and the life of an entrepreneur for you. Like a good wife, though, Vera took over the family business and with that, the stress, the travel and the time away from raising her now seventeen year-old daughter, Lucy.
Not that Lucy, an only child, needed constant supervision anymore at her age, but upon knowing my arrival, (it's hard for someone who, for the lack of a better term, is a little bit too famous to travel too discreetly) a looming week-long business trip and the good of having an older male presence around the home asked me to keep an eye on her. I was welcome to stay at their much larger and more luxurious penthouse for the time being. Also, before I was to move in for the week, I was to be treated to a recital featuring Lucy as the headlining piano prodigy at a generously sized concert hall.
